Nudges

When do you know you are being nudged by God rather than by indigestion? I know that it sounds like an attempt at humor, but the question is totally serious. How do you know that when you feel His prompting that it is really Him? If it doesn't conflict with Scripture, you feel it has been confirmed multiple times, and you still are unable to achieve what you feel you are being led to do, is it possible that you're wrong? That it's not God nudging you, but your own desires?

I want your input. I want to know what you think. Please share.

Well, you asked. Here's what I believe. You are ONLY "nudged" by God's Holy Spirit when you are spiritually ready for Him to use you. When nudged, you will feel unsure, not worthy, unprepared, ill equipped, and my believe He's not calling you, I know, I've been there. He's not calling you do do something you can do on your own. He's wanting to partner with you, and when you have Him as a partner, anything can be done. So don't allow Satan to feed you all his lies about how poor a choice you might be for the task God's calling you to. Satan will feed you more garbage than your soul can deal with.

But, here's your answer. Go to God in SERIOUS prayer, ask, no beg, for the Him to send His Holy Spirit to you in a very clear and unmistakeable way, IF INDEED, He is calling you. God will honor your request for that clear and unmistakeable (call it a sign, a feeling, or whatever) knowledge. Trust me, IF it is His call, you will know and quickly. Once you receive His notice, act, pray for guidance, but above all, get cracking and pay attention. Beg for the Holy Spirit to show you the way, the speed, the available resources, and to provide you the strength you need. Also pray that the Holy Spirit will protect you (mind, body, and spirit from Satan every minute of every day.

His business is serious business and must not be entered into lightly, but IF it is His call, do you need to "woman-up" and give Him all you've got? Be careful though, remember what Jesus asked of the rich man; sell all, give the money to the poor, and come follow Him. We are not called to ease, but a cross.

Great comment by Jim. :)

I think you shouldn't automatically discount the call you feel due to an immediate lack of results. Sometimes God's timetable is different than ours. A quick glance at a ton of Old Testament stories will show that!

What if Moses took Pharaoh's first answer and decided God hadn't really called him to deliver the Israelites? Just one example...

And we may not know the REAL reason for the call or nudge until all is said and done. Recall God telling Abraham to sacrafice his son. That was not God's intention, to have the son killed. But He wanted to prove Abraham's obedience and faith. We are not able to see the big picture as God does. We are simply to be obedient to His call, whatever it is and to whatever end. That is walking in real faith and trusting Him for the best end result. Abraham's faith brought great glory to his God. But if Abraham could have seen the big picture ahead of time, what would have been the point? No real glory would have been brought to God, no real faith would have been shown.

Jim, I needed to hear this: "So don't allow Satan to feed you all his lies about how poor a choice you might be for the task God's calling you to. Satan will feed you more garbage than your soul can deal with." Thank you!

Missy, this is what I needed next: "Sometimes God's timetable is different than ours. A quick glance at a ton of Old Testament stories will show that!" You are a ROCKSTAR!

Carlotta, you just know too much, don't you? Throw my own example right back in my face. That's why I love you and wouldn't have you any other way. And you are right. I can't wait to see this worked out and find out God's reason for all of this.

I love the line in the song, If you get the chance to sit it out or dance, dance." God's call is always to dance, not sit it out. When it comes to serving our GREAT GOD, the most important thing to remember is; It isn't about you, not your skills, your abilities, your motivation, your vision, your nothing, it is about Him and He will provide ALL that is needed.

Another way to say it is; Tee it up, and play, but play hard!

You go, God's woman.

The Apostle Paul was uncompromising on the truth, but his sensitive side also shows up in his writings. In our busy, self-centred world, we need to remember those who have made a difference in our lives, and when they come to mind, pray for them, and find a way to say ‘thank you.’

Establish and increase your faith carefully choosing the Biblical values against which all of life is judged. Yes, you are human, and you will struggle with situations which demand that you choose between what you want to do and what you ought to do. Walk with God and maintain your integrity, and you will be able to make the right choice every time. Visit http://simon.weston.over-blog.net/ and may God richly bless you!

For some reason, it made me actually laugh out loud in my office when I read above:

"Simon said..."

Yeah, I'm a dork. But it struck me as funny. :)
